The collective Mother Of Pearl was founded in 2013 in Düsseldorf by the artists Liza Dieckwisch, Ae Ran Kim, Jungwoon Kim, and Klara Paterok.
In 2021, the collective conceived and built the artistic-architectural intervention of the same name „Mother Of Pearl“ , in St. Florian near Linz, Austria. Based on the concept of a Korean pavilion (Jeongja), the collective incorporated the surrounding nature into the design.
The Mother of Pearl pavilion was specially designed for one of the carp ponds at St. Florian Abbey: the pavilion extends out onto the water surface of the pond and merges with the surrounding fauna and flora to form a unity. For its implementation, the artists attached great importance to ecological and regional approaches. For the project, they used regional wood, which they treated with fire. „Mother Of Pearl“ is a place of cultural exchange, an exhibition space, a space for concerts and performances. Curated by the artists themselves, it aims to promote free artistic work and dialogue between different disciplines.
